MEMBER RECRUITMENT
|
Friendship Force member recruitment initiatives in Canadian clubs:
Several clubs have taken the time to tell us how they deal with recruitment issues.
I have taken the liberty of distilling their prose so you can view the salient points and perhaps use some of these ideas.

Metro Vancouver – Linda Arksey
- Yes, recruitment is necessary and at times very challenging.
- The bookmark idea was mine
- I took it from another club
- We have a membership committee with a member on our executive
- At times we seek out public resources such as church groups and senior and recreation centers.
- We use personal contacts together with our web site
- We invite small local newspapers to our welcome, farewell and perhaps special events and parties.
- I am hoping to contact community affairs programs on our local radio station.

FF Saskatoon - David Crossley
- FF Saskatoon is a relatively new club, which has been running for about 12 years
- Currently has 36 members,
- but has been undergoing quite dramatic changes in the last couple of years as:
- older members have quit –
- moving away to be with grandchildren and
- experiencing
mobility problems
- we need to grow the membership to about 45
- new members have come our way by one of three routes:
- the FFI webpage,
- a small ad we run in one of the local weekly papers
- and word of mouth
- Last month our new Board discussed the recruitment issue and there was some hesitation about the ads in the newspaper, mainly because it was feared they would attract people who, despite what they have been told, would treat FFI as being just a mere travel club.
- Board members felt that word of mouth was best and reminded ourselves of a very successful Open House Potluck we held a couple of years ago to which members were urged to bring along any friends they felt might be interested
